For this exercise, you'll have the look back to your previous work and re-see your writing with fresh eyes, inlcuding:
● Your First Draft - Step 5-2
● Your Free Writes - Step 6 Part 1: Writing Outside the Essay
● Your Potential New Openings - Step 6 Part 2: New Openings
● Any comments that I made on your essay work thus far.
PART 1: Reread your first draft, focusing on both what you say (CONTENT) and how you say it (STRUCTURE). Then follow these steps:
Highlight in GREEN any sentences, phrases, or sections that are especially strong. This includes vivid details, unique voice, or anything that clearly answers the prompt or supports your theme.
Highlight in RED anything that is repetitive or unnecessary. You only have so much space—don’t say the same thing more than once.
Look back at your free writing from Step 6-1 and new openings from Step 6-2. Use comments in the margins to note what you want to add, remove, or change in your next draft.
PART 2: After you've highlighted your essay, go to the Essay Folder and complete worksheet Step 7-1. Write about what areas you will change, add, or expanded upon in your next draft.
DO NOT CONTINUE TO STEP 7-2 UNTIL YOU HAVE RECEIVED FEEDBACK FROM KRIS!
